Assistant Chef
Rātā Café is an award winning café offering cuisine with a conscience and native twist. Our ethos is working with what nature provides to make delicious food and drink that is not only sustainable, but gives back to the earth. Bees from our beehives are now producing organic honey. All proceeds go towards the conservation efforts of ZEALANDIA.
To assist the Head Chef and Sous Chef in the effective running of the food operation by preparing all food items to the highest standard and meeting Food Control Plan and budget guidelines.
Rātā Café’s normal operating hours are 7 days a week from 8am to 5.30pm. Work outside of these may be required to support functions activities.

Sous Chef
(3-month fixed term)
Rata Café is part of ZEALANDIA, an award-winning ecosanctuary and conservation project dedicated to connecting people with nature. We have a 500-year vision to restore 225ha of forest and fresh-water ecosystems within our sanctuary fence, and a 20-year strategy that focuses on our impact and influence beyond the fence. ZEALANDIA is also a place where people’s understanding of New Zealand biodiversity and environmental issues is enhanced through their involvement, enjoyment, learning and experience of the sanctuary.

Our Kids Menu is very popular with our younger patrons and has received endorsements from the Heart Foundation and winning a Munch Food Award for the best kid’s menu in New Zealand.
The Sous Chef will assist the Head chef in managing a hardworking kitchen team of 3-5 people responsible for the creation of inspiring dishes for Rātā Café, and continuing our ongoing sustainable and ethical food practices. This will include assisting the Head Chef in the overall management of the kitchen at Rātā Café including delivering an efficient food service, food costs, training and performance of all kitchen staff and in ensuring that all food items are created to the agreed standards. The Sous Chef will also be responsible for managing the kitchen when the Head Chef is not working.

Lead Ranger Fundraising and Partnerships
ZEALANDIA is a world class ecosanctuary in Wellington, New Zealand, with a team of passionate and committed conservation practitioners and communicators. We are an urban ecosanctuary radically changing the way people connect with nature, and a pioneer for urban conservation and restoration.
We now have a vacancy for a permanent fulltime fundraising and partnerships expert who can help us amplify our impact on conservation and nature engagement within the sanctuary, the city and beyond.
Our new Lead Ranger Fundraising and Partnerships will lead ZEALANDIA’s fundraising, partnership and sponsorship endeavours, creating and delivering new opportunities and intiatives. They will help further promote the position of the organisation as a leader in active conservation, groundbreaking research and connections between people and nature. They will be working within a supportive and creative team of connectors and communicators.
This is the ideal role for an emerging fundraiser wishing to take a step up in their fundraising and partnerships career, eager to spread their wings and show what they can achieve for an extraordinary place and cause.
We’re looking for someone who is both results-driven and collaborative, who can find opportunities, build relationships, engage and inspire partners and donors, and deliver ambitious fundraising goals.
If you have skills and experience in fundraising and partnerships and a passion for nature, we want to hear from you. Our ideal candidate will have:
- Practical experience in fundraising and partnerships, ideally with specific focus in not-for-profit or conservation environments
- Proven experience in developing and delivering against ambitious fundraising plans
- Outstanding communications and relationship management skills
- Proven strengths in data and project administration and excellent attention to detail
- A strong understanding of the New Zealand fundraising context and sector
To be successful in this role you must be an enthusiastic, proactive and positive person with the ability to identify, craft and deliver successful fundraising and partnership opportunities and initiatives to a wide range of stakeholders.
